Lyon Studios opened in October 1975. It was the first recording studio ever built in Newport Beach and Curt Lyon had constructed it with a $20k bank loan, a marketing degree…and a big fat dream. With little fanfare, the OC musical community embraced an affordable alternative to the big Hollywood multi-track studios, and the news began to spread.
It soon became one of the first incubators in Orange County, attracting artists, musicians, producers and writers from around the world to record the likes of Kenny Loggins, Stevie Wonder, America, Edgar Winter, Canned Heat, The Righteous Brothers, Morris Albert (Feelings) even Yehudi Menuhin. Not to mention, hundreds of starry-eyed wannabees who used Lyon as a stepping stone to the LA record business.
As the bands recorded at night, the top Ad Agency creatives turned to Lyon’s creative team to produce jingles and elaborate radio campaigns, during the day. Lucky Market’s, IHOP, Chevrolet, Carl’s Jr. and Disneyland Resorts were blasting the air waves. Film directors and movie producers like Walter Hill, Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall hired Lyon to create music for some of their blockbuster hits like The Warriors, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Poltergeist.
As time went on, Lyon Studios began, not just producing other people’s ideas, but developing strategic brand campaigns for their own clients. From small corporate marketing launches to massive film projects, Lyon Studios has become a hub of brand marketing and creative content activity for many of the most recognized brands.
Here’s an example of some of our work. We will be updating these constantly so stay tuned!
